Admire Those You Envy

January 19, 2018

In this world, there are people who are extraordinary in everything that they do. From having good looks to amazing talents, humans all have moments in which they become envious of one another. However, the attitude you take on and the actions you make from this emotion is all up to you. As we transition through high school, there will be many instances where you may feel inferior to those around you and think less of yourself. Instead, those people you envy can become someone you admire, and act as a catalyst to ignite your will to learn and grow as a person.

Changing your perspective can be difficult, but once you are able to, you can notice different things. You may notice that the people you were once envious of will become an inspiration and help you strive for the best in everything you do. They can push you to your limits, but can also help you learn to accept that you have limits and cannot always be perfect. This characteristic is what defines us as humans. Finding a rival to compete with yourself can help you achieve goals and can also be very fun. However, being careful to not lose yourself and instead developing as a person is very important. Don’t be the person you admire, but be someone with your own strengths and experiences that can inspire others.

“Do not overrate what you have received, nor envy others. He who envies others does not obtain peace of mind.” - Buddha.

Everyone is their own individual. You do not need to be someone else. Envy doesn’t have to be pretty, but by changing it to admiration, you have something to look up to and to work towards. Despite all the obstacles and challenges that await us in the future, this is a thought that can help you along your journey.
