In recent years, the use of electronics has sprung up rapidly, with billions of people worldwide spending hours of their day looking at their mobile devices, computers, or other types of electronics. A day can’t seem to pass by without seeing a friend peek at their Instagram or a parent reading the newsletter from their laptops. Why do so many people use these electronics on a regular basis? How can this usage pose problems to the users? Additionally, how can the usage of these electronics be continued in an effective and healthy way? These are some questions that this article will be going over.
Foremost, the reason that electronics have become such a big component of people’s lives is because of their many benefits. First, electronics help us communicate with others easily and conveniently. It helps us build a connection with people without needing to have a face-to-face conversation. Secondly, these electronics create entertainment, whether through games or apps. It provides several enjoyable ways to spend your free time. Next, they help us gain knowledge through the endless data stored on the internet. For instance, if there is a time when an answer to a question is urgently needed, a quick search on an engine such as Google will make it pop right up.
However, with the immense benefits of electronic usage also comes heavy drawbacks. Most importantly, addiction to electronics may occur. This has been troublesome for many electronic users. It prevents them from being active in their lives on a daily basis. As a result, these users rarely interact with the outside world by failing to focus on work or to study, to communicate with families and peers, to participate in outdoor activities and community events, and so on. Additionally, excessive exposure to these electronics may cause health damage to the user, including blurry vision and slowed thought-processing.
Due to the negative impacts of electronic usage, managing your time around screen exposure is critical for personal health. Depending on your age and health structure, screen exposure times may vary. As a personal recommendation, screen time should be managed by setting up a schedule, along with activities to do at different times and specific hours of everyday electronic usage. This way, screen time can be planned with other activities in an organized, efficient, and healthy manner. There are many ways to manage electronic usage, so it is widely open to the user’s preference when deciding which method to use.
In conclusion, the use of electronics occurs on a frequent basis for many around the world. Although this usage can bring many benefits, its heavy negative impacts inflicted on the user cannot be evaded. Thus, in my opinion, managing screen time wisely and effectively is something that we should all strive for as users of these devices.
