The Problem With East 27th Ave and Nootka St

December 13, 2019

Do you know about the problem with East 27th Avenue and Nootka Street? If not, then pay attention, as we’ll explain it to you.

East 27th Avenue and Nootka Street is a very busy intersection. Near this intersection are Windermere Secondary and a bus stop. Students who take the 16 bus to school stop at the southbound 27th Avenue bus stop, because it’s the closest to Windermere. Due to the upcoming weather which includes wind, cloudiness and a slight chance of rain, this will make it unsafe for us students to cross the intersection; both those who take the bus and those who walk to school. Not many cars will stop for you to cross either. Keep in mind that if there are more clouds, the skies will be darker as well. This also increases the risk of injury for pedestrians, cyclists and the general public. This is a problem that needs to be solved.

A solution for the problem would be to create a crosswalk between East 27th and Nootka. However, we can’t do that on our own. We need to spread the word so that it can reach and notify city officials. That is why the Grade 9's of the Leadership Program have been working hard  to start a petition for this to happen. If you see any of the Leadership 9’s around the school, consider signing this petition. Let’s make this crosswalk happen.
